My Life at The Ohio State University
Sai Kishore J. shares his experience at The Ohio State University.Q :- You have been one of those highly respected lot of students who have been doing higher studies at The Ohio State University. How does it feel to be at The Ohio State University?
A :- Well... it really feels good to be a part of this great university and more proud to be a part of The Biggest campus among US universities. The college is good in every aspect. My specialization being control systems, really good research is happening in labs and we stand in top 10 among US universities in controls. So it really feels great to be studying here.
Q :- Please tell us about which course is you doing and why did you choose that course?
A :- I am doing Master of Science( MS) in Electrical Engineering with Control Systems as my specialization. Since I got introduced to control systems in my engineering, I was fascinated by the application of this great subject and I got interested in learning more about it so that it can be applied in numerous fields. It’s the same interest which led me to decide upon the specialization here.
Q :- Why did you choose the USA for higher education?
A :- The US universities are the most well recognized schools in the world and I get exposed to the best infrastructure and lab facilities here. Since I was craving for the same, I thought schools in US are best suited to my interests and goals.
Q :- How is The Ohio State University different than any other USA University based on whatever you have heard from your friends about?
A :- To be frank, I didn’t get many opinions about my university. My decision was totally based upon my research about the universities’ work in my related field and profile of professors here in my field. But I was told by my lecturers that the university is one of the good ones.
Q :- Are you happy with your decision?
A :- Very much happy.
Q :- Where do you eat? Do you cook yourself?
A :- I eat at home. Yes I cook for myself.
Q :- Where do you live? On-campus or off-campus and why?
A :- I live off- campus because this is a very friendly place to be close to campus but at the same time not totally inside the campus. And you get to meet loads of Indians around here.
Q :- Please share some of your experiences of the USA for aspiring students
A :- Well…One thing which I like very much here is that people are very polite and friendly. The traffic management system is to the best one can imagine. I stayed with an American family for the first two days after I arrived. They were really very caring and friendly. They even cooked dhal (which she didn’t know it was) and rice for me and another Indian who stayed with me there in their house. I liked it and they are really good people. In general, Americans are friendly.
Q :- What’s your advice to students who aspire to go to the USA for higher studies?
A :- First of all I would support their decision. And secondly, I advise them to work hard and to get used to the time constraint system here to do well later.
Q :- Other than academics, what else did you learn from the country USA ?
A :- Well.. the people here are very disciplined and neat. More than anything I like the common sense they have shown in building public buildings and other properties.
I learnt punctuality and work ethic. There is no room for plagiarism. In the latter case you are in real trouble. In my first 4 weeks, I could just see this. I hope to learn more and teach more about INDIA.
Q :- How are the studies in the USA different than the studies in India ?
A :- Nothing Common!! Professors are really good. Every student is assigned an advisor for his entire graduate studies. He/ she will be guided in the proper direction based on their own interests. Everything about you needs to be updated to your advisor. And there are Homework’s !! and you are continuously evaluated throughout the semester/quarter based on homework, projects, quizzes, midterm etc. They follow GPA system. Max is 4.
Q :- Is it worth spending so much money to get a degree from the USA as compared to similar degree in India with lower costs?
A :- Well I would say Yes!!
Q :- What’s your advice to parents of aspiring students?
A :- “Please don’t fear or have lot of concerns. Financially you are backed by Credila and rest here will be automatically taken care by your daughter/son.”
Q :- Key things to remember for parents and students while planning for the studies in the USA
A :- Apply early to get into good school and for parents, trust Credila.
Q :- What are you future plans?
A :- To get into good company and clear my loan. Return to India and start on my own.
Q :- How did you fund your higher education?
A :- Credila.
Q :- Why did you choose Credila?
A :- It was the quickest and most flexible system I have ever seen.
Q :- If Credila arranges a chat session with you for prospective students sometime in the future, will you be available for the chat on Credila’s expert chat session?
A :- I think yes. But not sure.
Q :- Any other advice to students and parents?
A :- Nothing much.
Q :- Any other references you can give us who can answer similar interviews ?
A :- Sorry..I know nobody.
