Mechanical Engineering, with 88 students, comes second in counselling for first batch

Vellore: The highest number of 119 candidates selected B.Tech. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), followed by 88 for Mechanical Engineering in the VIT University's Vellore campus during the joint counselling for the first batch (who have obtained ranks from 1 to 3000 in the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination-2010) held on the VIT campus here on Wednesday.
The counselling was conducted for admission to the 2225 seats in 13 B.Tech. programmes in the VIT Vellore campus and 640 seats in five B.Tech. programmes on the VIT's new Chennai campus. Fifty-five candidates opted for B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the Vellore campus.

The VIT offered 435 seats each in B.Tech. CSE and ECE, 355 in B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, 180 in B.Tech. Biotechnology, 160 in B.Tech. Information Technology (IT), 140 in B.Tech. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), 120 in B.Tech. Civil Engineering, 95 in B.Tech. Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering (EIE), 85 in B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in Energy Engineering), 70 in B.Tech. Bioinformatics, 60 in B.Tech. Biomedical Engineering, 50 in B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in Chemical Process Engineering) and 40 in B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in Automotive Engineering) at its Vellore campus. As far as the VIT Chennai campus is concerned, the University offered 140 seats each in B.Tech. CSE, ECE, EEE and Mechanical Engineering and 80 seats in B.Tech. Civil Engineering.

There was no taker for IT and Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in chemical process engineering), just one for EIE, two each for Bioinformatics and Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in Energy Engineering), three for Civil Engineering, eight for EEE and seven for Mechanical Engineering (with specialisation in Automotive Engineering) in the Vellore campus.

Out of the 140 seats each in ECE and CSE in the Chennai campus, only two seats and one seat respectively were filled in Wednesday's counselling, while there was no taker for the 140 seats each in Mechanical Engineering and EEE and for the 80 seats in Civil Engineering in the Chennai campus.

G. Viswanathan, Chancellor and president of VIT University handed over the seat allotment letters to six candidates, Dhananjay Bahal of Mumbai (who obtained the 77th rank in VITEEE) and Arihant Lunawat (Chennai, 135th rank) for admission to B.Tech. CSE, Vanga Santhosh (Adilabad, 140th rank) and Allawadi Charan Devender (Mumbai, 197th rank) in Mechanical Engineering, and to Paridhi Sanjay Gupta (U.P., 225th rank) and Monika Singh (U.P., 233rd rank) in Biotechnology. All of them opted for the Vellore campus. VIT vice-presidents Sankar Viswanathan, G.V. Sampath and G.V. Selvam, Vice-Chancellor V. Raju and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Chennai campus) Anand A. Samuel were present.
